Project Description

The overall objective of the assignment was to prepare a comprehensive and viable scheme to develop Port Qasim as an international facility in this region. It required a redefinition of the Port Qasim master plan and presentation of alternative development strategies recommending the optional solution to take the Port into the next century together with an identification of expected sources of funds an opportunity for private investment. Development strategies and master plan were evolved for the following periods:

  • Short term plan up to next                10 years

  • Medium term plan                             10-20 years

  • Long term plan                                  20-50 years

Traffic impact Assessment for the project included the preparation of traffic estimates for the planned road network within the Port area and its impact on the adjoining National Highways. The traffic impact assessment was based on the estimation of existing traffic on the road network in and around the port area and preparation of projected traffic estimates on the basis of the projected expansion of port cargo handling capacities of target design periods.
