Project Description

The Government of Pakistan launched the project covering 800 kms. of roads in order to boost-up the rural agricultural economy in 10 districts of the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan & NWFP. The project consists of the following components:

Component – A

Detailed Engineering & Construction Supervision of 188 km of roads in Sindh and Balochistan and 93 km of roads in NWFP

Component – B

Road maintenance study in 10 districts of Pakistan

Component – C

General Consultancy Services of 10 districts of Pakistan

Engineering Consultants International (Pvt) Ltd., (ECIL) was awarded 281 kms of roads in Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP.

Prepared & submitted of Project Completion Report for the Government of Pakistan and the Donor Agency.

 

Services

A. Detailed Engineering Design:

  • Undertook detailed road & bridge inventory of sections of project roads, including geometric features, type & condition of pavement, type of drainage and bridge structures, showing their conditions

  • Carried out Topographic Surveys and Geotechnical & Hydrological Investigation

  • Assisted, in consultation with ADB/C&W departments in the preparation of detailed programme, collection/ analysing socio-economic & traffic data for project benefit monitoring and evaluation (PBME) on 20% of the road lengths

  • Examined the existing design standards/specification of rural roads and evaluate suitable design standards/criteria & specifications

  • Prepared detailed designs/drawings/reports

  • Prepared BOQ, specifications & tender documents

B. Construction Supervision:

  • Undertaken resident supervision of roads, including earth work and monitored the quality of work

  • Recorded all measurements of the work quantities to be paid for

  • Preparing construction programme and monthly progress reports

C. Road Maintenance Study:

  • Reviewed the existing organizational arrangements and procedures for maintenance of Farm to Market Roads and prepared appropriate servicing/repair manuals of road maintenance equipment

  • Development maintenance practices/procedures for road maintenance and parted training to the personnel

  • Prepared programme for maintenance in 10 districts and identified the requirements for annual budgetary allocations
